PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dynamic image variable speed reproduction method capable of variable speed reproduction without image quality deterioration such as resolution lowering, aliasing and scanning line vertical blurring by obtaining proper parity interlaced scanning image as an output image during variable speed reproduction. SOLUTION: When a dynamic image is reproduced from a recorded dynamic image signal, where the dynamic image (interlaced scanning image) is output at a reproduction speed set at a speed different from the inherent reproduction speed of the dynamic image (namely, during variable speed reproduction), a reproduced image is obtained as a progressive scanning image. Since the progressive scanning image includes the field of both parities of the interlaced scanning, the progressive scanning image is converted to be matched with the format of the interlaced scanning image for output in response to set reproduction sped, so that the interlaced scanning image of the proper parity can be obtained even at any reproduction speed.
