PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can prevent image data from being stored in an image memory for a long time. SOLUTION: A main control section 1 of a digital composite machine 20 stores image data read and converted by a scanner being an image input means or image data received by a facsimile function being other image input means to an image memory 8, and reads the image data stored in the image memory 8 in response to a transfer request signal from a client PC 30 being an external terminal and transmits the image data to the client PC 30. When the image data stored in the image memory 8 are left stored therein over one month or more (YES in a step S28 in Figure 11), the image reader issues warning (steps S33, S34 in Figure 12).
