A gas sensor comprises a sensor element (27) for determining at least one physical parameter of a gas; a sealing arrangement which fixes the sensor element in a housing (12) of the sensor and has a sealing element (36a, 37a, 38a) containing a mixture of a ceramic material and a glass having a melting temperature of over 750 deg C and containing iron, copper, lithium, sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium in an amount of below 5 wt.%. An Independent claim is also included for the production of a sealing arrangement for the gas sensor. Preferred Features: The glass contains less than 25 wt.% aluminum oxide. The sealing element contains 45-90 vol.% ceramic material and 10-55 vol.% glass. The sealing arrangement has an electrical resistance between the sensor element and the housing of over 20 M OMICRON at a 500 deg C. The heat expansion coefficient of the glass is 7 x 10<-6> to 10 x 10<-6> K<-1>. The ceramic material contains steatite, boron nitride, forsterite, Al2O3, magnesium spinel, ZrO2, and/or ZrO2 stabilized with CaO, MgO, and/or Y2O3. |
