Axle drive has electric motor (6) coupled to axle shaft (5) of a driven wheel set via a drive contained within a drive housing (1), supported via at least one roller bearing from the axle shaft and supported from the chassis of locomotive via pendulum mounting (4). Latter has respective lever arms attached to chassis and drive housing, at least one having torsional bias for exerting radial force on roller bearing in a downwards direction.
