A SEAT BELT HAVING ENERGY ABSORBING AND CONTROLLING FUNCTION

An energy absorbing apparatus for a seat belt is disclosed. Said energy absorbing apparatus can limit and control the forward motion of a vehicle occupant after the retractor has locked during a crash. Said energy absorbing apparatus is connected between a seat belt anchorage and seat belt webbing. Said energy absorbing apparatus comprises a deformable energy absorbing tube and an extrusion guide block. Said deformable energy absorbing tube is plastically deformed in the extrusion guide block to provide a variable withdrawal resistance, thereby controllably dissipating and absorbing energy from impact force during a crash.
