<p>Disclosed herein are sustained release formulations of nifedipine and dextromethrophan that are compatible with a soft elastic gelatin capsule and a two-piece hard shell gelatin capsule. It has been discovered that specific lipids in the formulations can spontaneously form multilamellar liposomes upon introduction of the formulation to an aqueous environment. These spontaneously formed liposomes are stable under conditions that simulate the environment of the stomach and upper small intestine. The formulations can be administered orally, intra-ocularly, intranasally, rectally, or vaginally.</p> |
