A mixing tap comprises a handle 20 articulated by a ball member 21 in a housing 19, a spherical member 17 rotatably nested within a recess 26 in the ball member 21 and having four valve heads 11a, 12a, 13a and 14a associated, respectively, with hot and cold water passages 11, 12, a bath outlet 13, and a shower outlet 14. In operation, movement of the handle 20, causes the member 17 to pivot on one or two of the valve heads 11a-14a seated on their respective seats, and control flow through the remaining passages. The movement of the handle is limited by an opening 25 having stop surfaces 25a, 25b, 25c which represent the limits of permitted movement of the spherical member 17. Each seat 18 is formed from a resilient packing material. Play in the valve can be taken up by a nut 24. The valve may have only one outlet, in which case the other outlet is blocked, and the opening 25 is limited to half that shown in Fig. 4.</p> |
