<p>A receptacle (12) is provided for receiving a fiber optic connector (50) along an optic axis (20), the connector including a mating end (58) that terminates an end of an optical fiber. The receptacle includes a housing (14) having an open end (16) for receiving the mating end (58) of the fiber optic connector (50) inserted thereinto on the optic axis (20). A shutter (28) is mounted on the housing (14) for movement to close and open the open end (16). The shutter extends across the optic axis (20) when the shutter is closed. The shutter is movable away from the optic axis upon engagement by the inserted mating end (58) of the connector (50). The shutter includes an outer connector-engaging surface (42) having a recessed area (44) for registry with the terminated end of the optical fiber to protect the fiber end. <IMAGE></p> |
