The fitting for a motor vehicle's seat has a bottom section (9) fixed to the structure of the seat section and an upper section (11) rotatable relative to the first for the inclination adjustment of the seat back. In the freely pivoted position of the seat back a free pivotable section (14) is fixed on the bottom section. A pivotable locking pawl (32) is mounted on the free pivotable section and which for the fixing of the free pivotable section interacts with a locking element (35) fixed to the bottom section. An Independent claim is included for the seat of a motor vehicle with the proposed fitting for the inclination adjustment and free pivoting of the seat back.
