An industrially more advantageous process for producing an oxirane derivative. The process, by which a compound (8) represented by the general formula (8) (wherein PG<1> represents a hydroxyl-protecting group), a salt thereof, or a hydrate of either is produced, is characterized by eliminating the leaving groups of a compound (6) represented by the general formula (6) (wherein X represents halogeno; Y represents C2-11 acyl; and PG<1> is as defined above) and/or a compound (7) represented by the general formula (7) (wherein the symbols are as defined above).
