The invention provides an industrially advantageous process for preparation of 3-methoxydecanol derivatives, specifically a process for preparation of compounds represented by the general formula (5), salts thereof, or hydrates of both, characterized by protecting the hydroxyl group of a compound represented by the general formula (4): (5) wherein R is C1-6 alkyl; and PG<2> is a hydroxyl-protecting group.
