A bleaching composition which comprises a diatomaceous earth carrying titanium oxide thereon and a peroxide; and a method for bleaching a tooth which comprises applying the bleaching composition on the surface of a tooth and irradiating the composition applied with a light and/or heat. The method allows the desired bleaching effect to be achieved in a shorter time as compared to a conventional method.
