PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical agent containing a Poncirus trifoliata Rafin. extract which specifically inhibits proliferation of hepatitis virus and has low toxicity to live cells is provided. Because the agent has low toxicity to human body and an excellent effect on inhibition of hepatitis C virus polymerize while inhibiting proliferation of hepatitis C virus in dependence on the concentration thereof, it is very useful as a therapeutic agent for hepatitis. CONSTITUTION: Poncirus trifoliata Rafin. is extracted with methanol or ethanol and then concentrated with n-hexane to produce a fraction, which is separated in a column with a mixed solvent of ethylacetate and n-hexane in a ratio of 1:3 to 1:1. A therapeutically effective amount of the Poncirus trifoliata Rafin. extract is 0.1 to 100mg/kg, preferably 1 to 10mg/kg.
