The invention relates to a respiratory air filter. Known filter devices have a half mask and a filter element. Filter devices of this type have a complex construction. The aim of the invention therefore is to provide a respiratory air filter, which has a simple construction and is inexpensive to produce. This is achieved by a respiratory air filter (10) comprising an air-permeable sleeve (11) and at least one filter layer (12, 12') that is located in said sleeve (11) and contains activated carbon. Said respiratory air filter is extremely simple and is constructed from inexpensive materials. As it need only be large enough to sufficiently cover the nose and mouth, it is extremely compact and convenient. As a result of its low cost and small dimensions, the filter can be taken everywhere, in the manner of paper tissue or chewing gum and is thus always available for use.
