<p>A modular separation system is described wherein a separation unit (100) is separate from a mounting device (300) that accommodates the separation unit in a separation apparatus. The mounting device is an integral part of the separation apparatus. A method for fluid-fluid extraction of an analyte from a sample fluid to a receiving fluid in a separation apparatus is also described.</p>
