Method for operational testing of a capacitor (C) that is charged during a charging phase (t1-t2) using a pulse width modulated step-up transformer. According to the method the voltage across the capacitor prior to the charging phase and after the beginning of the charging phase is measured. The difference ( DELTA U1) is calculated and compared with a theoretical value. An Independent claim is also included for a method for determining the ohmic content of the internal resistance of a capacitor that is charged during a charging phase (t1-t2) using a pulse width modulated step-up transformer in which the ohmic resistance is calculated from the quotient of the voltage difference ( DELTA U1) divided by the current at the time of the start of charging (t1). The invention also relates to corresponding circuits for implementing the above methods.
