Balustrade uses one or more self-supporting wood or plastics panel elements (3) fitted between spaced vertical posts (2), provided with sidewards projecting mountings (9), for supporting cover profiles (7) of plastics or a lightweight metal, covering the top edges of each of the panel elements. Cover profiles have a hollow space (8) along one longitudinal side edge, acting as a hanging slot for hanging the panel element from a post mounting.
