SMALL CALIBER PROJECTILE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE PROJECTILE

A small caliber projectile (10) with a core section (12), an outer section (14) and a jacket (16) is described. The core section (12) is symmetrical about a longitudinal axis (18) of the projetile (10). The core section (12) comprises an ogival front portion (20) and a body (22). The core section is made of hardened steel with a Brinell hardness range between HV 550 to 635. The outer section (14) is made of a lead-based antimony alloy and is substantially concentric relative to the core section (12) along the longitudinal axis (18). A method for manufacturing the projectile (10) has a step of intending a slug made using the alloy, to form a core cavity. The steel core section (12) is then inserted into the core cavity and a base (28) of the jacket (16) is then formed to retain the core section (12) and the outer section (14).
