1,156,689. Cutting by fusion. MESSER GRIESHEIM G.m.b.H. 26 Sept., 1966 [24 Sept., 1965], No. 42862/66. Heading B3V. [Also in Division F2] A cross-carriage flame-cutting machine has an upper carriage driven along a rail by an endless steel band 128 having equidistantly spaced holes 135 engaged by projections 127 in a drive roller 120. The band passes round an equal diameter roller 119 to form two parallel stretches (129), (130), Fig. 3 (not shown), which pass through slots in the upper carriage. The latter may be clamped to either of the stretches, to provide forward or return movement of the carriage, by pairs of hydraulic spring-biased clamps (147)-(150), Fig. 5 (not shown), operated by a piston driven by an electromagnet (146), Fig. 6 (not shown). Both clamps may be operated simultaneously for locking the carriage. Drive roller 120 has three ball projections 127 for engaging the holes in the band and is driven by an electric motor 124 which may be operated in accordance with a predetermined programme. The ends of the band are connected together by a riveted fishplate (137), Fig. 3 (not shown). The machine has four upper carriages (8)-(11), Fig. 1 (not shown), running along the rail 76 and all or any of them may be clamped to the driving band. They may be readily lifted therefrom. |
