A rotary transformer comprising an induction machine A having a number of poles not exceeding 4 couples two polyphase A.C. distribution systems I, II of slightly different frequency by having its stator connected to one system and its rotor to the other. The rotor is driven by an auxiliary machine M drawing its power from one of the systems, which machine may be a D.C. type having constant excitation and constant armature current fed by a rotating or static converter, or a squirrel cage motor fed through controlled rectifiers or a low frequency Scherbius machine, or an inverter W, or frequency -controlled synchronous machine. To stabilize the arrangement against oscillations, the motor may be controlled by change of power, torque, slip, frequency, or load angle or a combination or derivative of these parameters fed through a summation device S. Exchange of a reactive k.v.a. may be performed by altering the voltage from one system by transformation. An oscillating brush arrangement may be fitted to the motor and/or induction machine to avoid overheating during standstill conditions. Reactive k.v.a. may be regulated by a phase shifter, or a capacitor battery connected to one system.</p> |
