The invention relates to isocyanato-benzene derivatives of the general formula where R is alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, alkylaryl or heterocyclic; the alkyl radicals being either straight or branched radicals, the rings being either substituted or not and the isocyano group occupying either the meta or a para position to the sulphonamido group. The compounds are prepared by phosgenating an amine of the general formula The invention also relates to monosubstituted ureas of the general formula prepared from ammonia and the isocyanobenzene derivatives. The starting amides are prepared by saponification of the corresponding acetyl amide of the general formula or by reduction of the corresponding nitro derivative. The amides are obtained by condensation of the m- or p-acetylaminobenzene-sulphamylchloride, CH 3 -CO-NHC 6 H 4 SO 2 Cl, with the suitable primary amines in acetone and employing pyridine as HCl acceptor. In an example p-isocyanatobenzene sulphanyl- (p1-dodecyl-anilide) is prepared by reacting phosgene with p-amino benzene sulphonyl- (p1-dodecyl-anilide). Other examples are given and also examples in the preparation of acetamido and amine starting compounds.
