The invention relates a semi-finished product for use as or in a meal component, in particular a meat substitute, comprising at least the ingredients mushrooms or parts thereof, fibers, one or more proteins, at least a part of which is textured protein; one or more binding agents; and water. The invention further relates to a meat substitute based on the semi-finished product as claimed and to methods for preparing both semi-finished products and end-products, such as meat substitutes.
