A vehicle for handling a cylinder 83 comprises a chassis 1 with shafts 11, 13, a plate 33 slidable on the shafts and carrying gripping tongs 19, (21), and retractable supports 57, (59) on the chassis. The plate 33 is located by pins 43, (45) spring-biased into holes in the shafts. To pick up a cylinder the tongs are pressed open against the bottle neck, and closed around it by a spring (25). The bottle is lifted and pivots supports 57, (59) outwardly on pins (61, 63) on the chassis. The supports fall back on to stops (69) and the bottle is lowered on to them and conveyed away. To deposit the cylinder, its end is set down, levers 79, 81 operated to withdraw pins (61, 63) to release supports 57, (59), the cylinder set wholly down and the tongs drawn off the neck. |
