PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for embodying the gain control of an AGC(Automatic Gain Controller) using an A/D converter are provided to save a material cost by composing a speech unit which removes a speech IC. CONSTITUTION: A telephone switching center(10) transmits a feeding signal to a terminal. A telephone line unit(20) connects or disconnects a telephone line according to on-hook or off-hook. A speech unit(30) has a gain control unit(32) for controlling a gain. A handset unit(40) has a filter unit(42) for removing a speech noise and a microphone/receiver unit(44) for transmitting and receiving a call. A CPU(50) has an A/D converter(52) for coding an AGC and automatically controlling a gain.
