XY ADDRESS TYPE SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICKUP DEVICE

PURPOSE: To provide an XY address type solid-state image pickup device manufactured by the CMOS process that can conduct image averaging processing without increasing the chip area at a low manufacturing cost. CONSTITUTION: Pixel areas Pmn are laid out in a matrix form in an area demarcated by horizontal selection lines RWm and vertical selection lines CLn. Each pixel area Pmn is provided with a photodiode 10, a source follower amplifier 14 which converts electric charges in the photodiode 10 into a voltage, amplifies the voltage and outputs image data, and a horizontal selection transistor (TR) 16 that outputs the image data to a prescribed vertical selection line CLn. An amplifier/noise cancellation circuit 6 incorporates an image averaging circuit that applies averaging processing to the image data outputted from at least two of a plurality of the pixel areas Pmn.
