PURPOSE: To provide a carbonizing device and a carbonizing method using the same, by which device, even coagulated sludge containing fire-resistant inorganic materials and water can be carbonized without additional oil or powdered coal. CONSTITUTION: The method for carbonizing the coagulated sludge and the device therefor are characterized in that the coagulated sludge is fed to the higher end of a closed and inclined type trough 2 disposed in a combustion furnace 1 and that the coagulated sludge on the closed and inclined type trough 2 is carbonized in a reducing atmosphere by heating with the combustion furnace 1 while the coagulated sludge is moving downward to an outlet 6 of the carbonized product at the lower end by vibrating the closed and inclined type trough.
