METHOD FOR PRODUCING HYDROTALCITES

The invention relates to a method for producing hydrotalcites, using at least one compound of a divalent metal (component A) and at least one compound of a trivalent metal (component B), at least one of the two components not being used in its dissolute form. The inventive method is characterized by a) subjecting a least one of the components A and/or B that are not used in its dissolute form shortly before or during mixing of the components, and/or b) the mixture containing components A and B to an intensive grinding step until an average particle size (D50) of approximately 0.1 to 5 mu m is reached, and, optionally after an aging treatment or hydrothermal treatment, removing, drying and optionally calcinating the hydrotalcite product so obtained. The amorphous hydrotalcite precursors or finely divided crystalline hydrotalcites obtained by the inventive method are especially useful as catalysts or catalyst supports, or as nanocomposite fillers or co-stabilizers in a polymer matrix.
