<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix liquid crystal display device requiring no transparent electrode, excellent in viewing angle characteristics, with high contrast and generating little cross talk. SOLUTION: In the active matrix liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal composition sandwiched between first and second substrates, a plurality of pixels constructed with a plurality of scanning electrodes and signal electrodes and placed in a matrix on the first substrate and switching elements provided on the pixels, the active matrix liquid crystal display device is characterized by connecting pixel electrodes to the switching elements, by being operated by the pixel electrodes and a common electrode placed opposite thereto while keeping a long molecular axis direction of the liquid crystal nearly parallel with a substrate surface and by having the signal electrodes, the pixel electrodes and shielding electrodes between the signal electrodes and the pixel electrodes on the pixels.</p> |
