The invention relates to a reformer for a fuel cell. The reformer (10) is divided into a premix chamber (12) having a fuel inlet (16) and an oxidizing agent inlet (17) and a reaction chamber (13) having a gas outlet (20), which is connected to the fuel cell. At least the premix chamber (12), also preferably the reaction chamber (13), is provided with a flame arrestor (18 or 19), wherein at least the flame arrestor (18) protruding at least in the premix chamber is also configured as a glow plug.
