The device for the transporting of motor vehicle bodies through a surface treatment area includes a conveyor (102) which brings the bodies (148) into the treatment area (176) in a vertical position in which the longitudinal direction of the body is orientated at an angle of approximately 30 degrees maximum relative to the vertical, and brings them out of the treatment area again in a vertical position. The conveyor carries the bodies through the treatment area in the vertical position.
