PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to grasp program guide information, without having to operate the keys of a key board. SOLUTION: Multiplexed program guide information (EPG data) is extracted from digital broadcast receiving signals, and the program guide information is displayed on a part of a display screen. For instance, program guide information is extracted and stored, the program guide information is displayed at regular intervals; or each time certain program guide information is received, the program guide information is displayed on a part of a display screen. Or program categories, viewed by a user at present or program categories set by the user himself or program categories specified by the history of user's preferences, are considered as categories which a user likes; and when program categories contained in the received program guide information are considered as the program categories which a user likes, the program guide information is displayed on a display screen; and when they are not, the program guide information will not be displayed.
