PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that corrects deterioration in luminous quantity of a light source caused by a faulty LED. SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion element 401 reads a reflected light of an original set on an original platen glass plate 405 and emitted by a white LED array 402 as an electric signal via mirror board units 403, 404. LED elements 402 being a light source are sequentially lighted to emit a light onto a standard white board 406, the photoelectric conversion element 401 reads its reflected light so as to detect whether or not each LED element 402 being the light source is faulty on the basis of the read result of the reflected light.
