PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which is capable of analyzing the surface roughness, wobbling of the surface and further the impact resistance by drop impact, etc., of a recording medium and is capable of calculating an exact clearance parameter by making calculations to converge more rapidly. SOLUTION: The floating characteristics of the slider are evaluated by the shape of the surface of the slider which should face the recording medium, the clearance parameter between the slider and the recording medium, the load to be imparted to the slider and the attenuation distribution and the rigidity distribution calculated, with respect to the gaseous film of the clearance between the surface of the slider ought to face the recording medium and the recording medium, according to the relative speeds of the slider and the recording medium.
