Diastereoselective process for the preparation of (Z)-3-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-oxirane-2-carbonitrile and its conversion to (Z)-3-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-oxira ne-2-carbaldehyde. - Diastereoselective process for the preparation of (Z)-3-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-oxirane-2-carbonitrile (V) and its conversion to (Z)-3-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-o xirane-2-carbaldehyde (VI) are described. Novel intermediates which are precursors for (V) are also described.
