PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for nickel fine powder in which the primary grain size of the powder lies in the range of 0.70 to 1.00μm by introducing the stoichiometric ratio of basic nickel carbonate by thermogravimetric mass spectrometry, using basic nickel carbonate in which the ratio lies in a fixed range, and allowing metallic nickel to undergo reduction reaction. SOLUTION: The production method for nickel fine powder is provided wit ha stage where a metallic salt solution obtained by dispersing basic nickel carbonate onto a solvent is prepared, and a stage where hydrazine or the hydrate of hydrazine is added to the metallic salt solution, and metallic nickel is subjected to reduction reaction. Provided that basic nickel carbonate is expressed as xNiCO3 .yNi(OH)2 .zH2 O, x=1, y=0.4 to 0.8, and z=1.5 to 3.0 are satisfied.
