PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily charge a portable telephone set at a remote location even at the time of not carrying coins. SOLUTION: A portable telephone set charging system for charging the portable telephone set 9 is provided with a plurality of charging devices 1 capable of simultaneously charging a plurality of the portable telephone sets and a charging control part 5 making the charging device start charging on the basis of information exchange with the portable telephone set, also authenticating the portable telephone set and performing charging for the use of the charging device. The charging control part is provided with a message transmission/ reception part 8 exchanging information with the portable telephone set. The message transmission/reception part receives the information of a charging start request from the portable telephone set, transmits the information of charging start confirmation which is a response to the information of the charging start request to the portable telephone set and receives the consent information of transmission start to the information of the charging start confirmation from the portable telephone set.
