PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of enhancing quality of recorded image by eliminating a foreign matter on an original before reading the image. SOLUTION: A recessed part 40 is provided on a guide plate 39 in an original transfer path to a second translucent plate 23. A brush 46 as an eliminating means for elimination of the foreign matter is provided in the recessed part 40. Thus, the foreign matter adhered to the original is eliminated by the brush 46 during transfer of the original and drops in the recessed part 40. Consequently, the quality of the recorded image is enhanced by eliminating the foreign matter on the original before reading the image.
