PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor superior in responsivity and easily assembled. SOLUTION: In the gas sensor 1, a sensor element module 5 is provided in such a way as to protrude from a main surface on one side of a sensor substrate 3. A casing 19 comprises both a casing main body part 19M for housing the sensor substrate 3 and a module housing part 19C which is formed in such a way as to protrude from an outer surface of the casing main body part 19M and is provided inside with a space 49 for introducing a gas to be detected of a volume smaller than that of the internal space 17a of the casing main body part 19M and in which a gas introducing opening part 13 is formed in a side surface in such a way as to communicate with the space 49 for introducing the gas to be detected. A sensor unit 9 houses the sensor element module 5 in the module housing part 19C of the casing 19 and the sensor substrate 3 in the casing main body part 19M.
