PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start controlling method and device for a vehicle engine capable of starting the engine through simple procedures. SOLUTION: When a portable unit 11 and a communication control device 21 are in inter-communications, an ID code signal containing a select code is outputted from the portable unit 11. The select code is to change over the functional position of the electric system of the vehicle 2. Receiving the ID code signal, the communication control device 21 outputs a start permission signal and a control signal containing the select code to a start control part 32, which changes over automatically the functional position in conformity to the select code.
