It is intended to provide assay reagents and an assay method to be used for the assay of a biological component wherein the activity of the biological component is assayed while avoiding interference by substances (bilirubin, hemolytic hemoglobin, etc.) other than the subject to be assayed. Reagents for assaying a biological component characterized by containing one or more substances selected from among thiodiglycolic acid, beta -thiodiglycol and methionine. To avoid interference by hemolytic hemoglobin, at least one substance selected from among thiodiglycolic acid, methionine and beta -thiodiglycol is added, while to avoid interference by bilirubin, in particular, at least one substance selected from among thiodiglycolic acid, methionine, sodium sulfite and thiourea is added to the reagents. In addition to the substance(s) selected above, sodium laurylsulfate (SDS) is further added thereto.
