PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium having high recording sensitivity corresponding to a wide range of linear speed, satisfactory signal characteristics without any deterioration even to a large number of times of repeated use and excellent shelf properties. SOLUTION: The optical recording medium wherein at least a recording layer 3 and heat resistant protective layers 2 and 4 are provided on a substrate 1 and the optical constant of the recording layer 3 is changed by irradiating the recording layer with laser beams to perform recording, reproduction and erasure is characterized in that the heat resistant protective layers 2 and 4 consist essentially of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba and at least one element selected from the group consisting of Se and Te. |
