PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately perform inspection of a light source of an image reader. SOLUTION: An area CCD scanner (image reader) 3 is provided with an LED unit (light source) 23, an area CCD 24 and an image forming lens 25. Many light emitting elements of the respective colors as B, G, R, IR are arranged in the LED unit 23. The area CCD 24 receives light emitted from the LED unit 23 and transmitting a photographic film 21, to convert it into an electric signal and outputs it as photographic image data. When the inspection of the light source is performed, a focal position of the image forming lens 25 is adjusted to the light emission surface of the LED unit 23 by transfer mechanism 28. The LED unit 23 is emitted without setting the photographic film 21 and the light is received by the optical area CCD 24. An emission state of the LED unit 23 is displayed on a display based on an obtained electric signal.
