PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in the read of long-distance optical information that the pixel number of an image sensor per molecule is minimized to make decoding difficult when the magnification of the lens of an imaging means is small, and the information density of the optical information is high. SOLUTION: A range finding means measures the distance with the optical information. A magnification adjusting means sets and adjusts the magnification of the imaging means from the distance information of the range finding means and the information density of information density memory means capable of preliminarily storing the information density of the optical information. A visual field information means for displaying the information for the visual field of the imaging means by use of optical beam changes the display of optical beam in interlocking with the change of visual field by the adjustment of the magnification of the imaging means. The imaging means receives the reflected light from the optical information and forms an image on the image sensor.
