METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING POSITION INFORMATION OF DIGITAL MAP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for transmitting position information of a digital map by which a position on a digital map can be accurately and efficiently transmitted to a receiver side. SOLUTION: In the method for transmitting position information of a digital map, the transmitting side approximates a vector shape on the digital map by a function to transmit the information of the function form and a parameter, and the receiving side reproduces a shape approximated by the function with the information received, and specifies with map matching the vector shape on the digital map corresponding to the reproduced shape. The transmitting side calculates the number of parameters of the function approximating the vector shape within the range of admissible error, and the number of parameters is evalued to determine the function form to be used for the approximation. Thus, the vector shape of the digital map can be accurately transmitted with a small amount of data.
