PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for controlling an expansion valve in a freezer capable of preventing the circulation of a refrigerant gas, which is not condensed by a condenser, and consequently, reduction in freezing efficiency. SOLUTION: A valve travel indicator 19 selects the larger one of a first valve travel command for an expansion valve 4, obtained by a first valve travel command generator 17 by way of calculation, based on a difference between inflow temperature Ti and outflow temperature To of an evaporator 1 through the amount of a refrigerant circulating in the freezer as the medium and a second valve travel command obtained by a second valve travel command generator 18 by way of calculation, based on the difference between the inflow temperature Ti and set temperature Ts of the freezer through the amount of the refrigerant circulating in the freezer and controls the expansion valve 4 in valve travel through the selected valve travel command.
