PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader with a mechanism that cleans dust and an image drawing agent hardly eliminated on a contact glass plate with a simple operation. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a cleaning mechanism 2 that can be reciprocated in the main operation direction on an upper part of the contact glass 1. The cleaning mechanism 2 is provided with a cleaning member 3 comprising a sponge 7 and a spatula 8 shaving off the image drawing agent, a guide wire 4, a cleaning device 5 sprinkling a cleaning agent to the cleaning member 3, and a vacuum device 6 that absorbs and removes the dust and image drawing agent removed from the contact glass 1 by the cleaning member 3.
