PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coupling/branching system in which the number of the waves of usable signal light is increased at once up to 2<n> times (n stands for an integer not smaller than 2) in a wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) transmission system. SOLUTION: The coupling/branching system 1 is provided with a first branching device 101 , a second branching device 102 , and a first coupler 201 . The coupling/branching system 1, when a multi-wavelength signal light is inputted into a first end 1a, branches the inputted multi-wavelength signal light, outputs a signal light which is in the wavelength band Λ11 to a second end 1b, and outputs a signal light which is in the wavelength band (Λ2 +Λ12 ) from a third end 1c. The coupling/branching system 1, when the signal light which is in the wavelength band Λ11 is inputted to the second end 1b and the signal light which is in the wavelength band (Λ2 +Λ12 ) is inputted to the third end 1c, on the other hand, couples the inputted multi-wavelength signal lights, and outputs the multiplexed multi-wavelength signal light from the first end 1c. |
