PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic compressor for facilitating the positioning of a suction pipe and a discharge pipe in the axial direction and producing an increase in resistance of a joint portion to a high pressure in a sealed container. SOLUTION: The hermetic compressor comprises a motor and a compression part arranged in the sealed container, a plurality of insertion holes 8a, 8b provided in the sealed container, the suction pipe 8 inserted to the insertion holes 8a, 9a for guiding a suction cooling medium into the compression part, and the discharge pipe 9 inserted thereto for guiding a compression cooling medium in the compression part to the outside of the sealed container, the suction pipe 8 and the discharge pipe 9 being fixed to the sealed container. The insertion holes 8a, 9a are burred toward the outside of the sealed container, an opening portion of the suction pipe 8 and/or the discharge pipe 9 inside the sealed container is enlarged into a tapered shape, the outer peripheries of enlarged pipe portions 8d, 9d are put in contact with the inner periphery edges of the insertion holes 8a, 9a, and the ends of burred portions 8b, 9b are joined to the suction pipe 8 and/or the discharge pipe 9 with brazing 10.
