Sample extraction device for permanent removal of soil samples has spring steel domed tongues forming seal at end of extraction tube

The device has a cutter tube (1) inside which is an extraction tube (21). At the bottom end of the extraction tube is located a domed enclosure formed by spring steel tongues (12) pointing upwards. The design of the device is such that as it is inserted in the ground the spring tongues offer no hindrance as the soil is penetrated. As the extraction tube is withdrawn the tongues are closed to prevent any of the core sample falling out of it.
