The invention relates to a method for purifying a phenol derivative that is selected from among alkyl phenols with an average molecular weight of from 200 to 4000 and the Mannich adducts thereof. The inventive method is characterized by intimately contacting the phenol derivative with an extractant agent of a polarity ET(30) of from 57 to 38 kcal/mole, allowing a phenol derivative-containing phase and an extractant phase to separate from each other and removing the extractant phase.
